The two-dimensional materials are single-layered materials with single layers of atoms and compounds. These materials can generally be classified into 2D allotropes or compounds of graphite oxide with atomic planes. Graphene was known to be amongst the first 2d Materials which were formed from the isolation of graphite. These materials are generally lightweight, strong and good conductors of heat and electricity.

These two-dimensional materials have both physical and chemical properties, which tend to have the best chemical composition. They hold on the property of detection limits which is important for sensitivity and measuring purpose. Due to their chemical and optical properties, these materials have gained much interest over recent years. They have also been paid more attention because of the novel properties which it has held.

These materials are generally defined as the single-layered atom on its surface. These materials are very rigid and strong. Of which there are some of the different type’s materials of two-dimensional given below:

Graphene: This is known to be the first material that is formed from the two-dimensional materials. The thinnest sheet of carbon atoms in graphene is considered to be stronger than steel. It acts as a good conductor of heat and electricity.

Silica Glass: This thinnest preparation of glass through 2D was discovered in New York by David Muller. This material is very rigid and in a bulky form.

State: This material is formed with the addition of fluorine atoms to a single layer of tin. Acts as a conductor of electricity where the electricity seems to flow only on the edges and not in the middle.

Phosphorene: These single layers of black phosphorus are considered to be the most suitable form of element which is formed under the 2d materials. They are known to be semiconductors.

Silicene: These elements have a thick layer of silicon and hold the same properties as that of graphene. They can also be used as silicon-based circuits.

Formation of Graphene from 2D elements

Graphene is known to be one of the most stable two-dimensional materials by far. They are known to be a million times thinner and transparent as compared to paper. These 2d materials have been modified into different forms of grapheme such as graphene, graphyne, graph Xene, etc.
